This YouTube video does a good job of demystifying choosing which Linux to start with and what distro does what.
Summary:
This video just like this website has always said, Linux Mint is the best distro to start with if you are a Windows refugee. This is the OS for you if you just want to use your computer for your day to day activities. Virtually no learning curve, just works out of the box.
Are you a gamer? Maybe, Bazzite is where you start. This distro has that game console feel and optimized for gaming. Not meant for desktop apps, so forcing it to do so might not be the best idea.
Want the best of both worlds? It’s not mentioned in this video, however, setting up a dual boot with Mint and Bazzite might be the way to go. Do your work and web surfing with Mint and game with Bazzite all on one computer.
Not a novice nor an expert, Fedora is a good choice if you don’t mind doing a little tinkering or customization to your desktop environment.
Is what you do with your computer is a little more mission critical? (ex: a server) Debian is the system to use, every update is very well tested and solid before being released.
Think you are a power user or have the bleeding edge in computer tech? CatchyOS is the power user desktop environment for you. However, what comes with great power is great responsibility! Things can go south very quickly if you don’t know what you are doing. Take this guy’s advice and setup a way to roll back your settings if things break.
